ALLEGED N5.6BN FRAUD: SUPREME COURT ORDERS EFCC TO PROSECUTE EX-GOVERNOR

-          The Supreme Court yesterday directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute the former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzo Kalu on a 107-count corruption charges.

-          Reportedly, the charges border on alleged complicity of Kalu in money laundering and illegal diversion of public funds to the tune of N5.6 billion.
-          Alleged Kalu perpetuated the act while he was the Governor of Abia State between 1999 and 2007.
-          EFCC docked Kalu before a Federal High Court in Abuja on July 27, 2007, but the defendant, for the past 8years, through various interlocutory applications, frustrated moves by EFCC to open a case against him.
