DISPUTE OVER NNPC RESTRUCTURING THROWS ECONOMY INTO CHAOS

-           Strike action embarked upon by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) staff, over planned restructuring of NNPC plunged the economy deeper last week.

-          Allegedly, the crisis was caused by the Minister of State’s unilateral announcement of restructuring of NNPC, without proper consultations.

-          The two labour groups in NNPC, PENGASSAN and NUPENG vehemently opposed the announcement, the National Assembly also kicked against it.

-          Arguments and disagreements centred on the legality or otherwise of the restructuring exercise.
