Labour raised an alarm yesterday that the food, beverage and tobacco sector of
the Nigeria’s economy was almost collapsing.

Labour alleged that over three million jobs are
at risk, following the inability of companies to source foreign exchange to import
raw materials for productions.

Reportedly, major companies in the sector, such
as Guinness Plc, Friesland Campina Wamco Plc, Nigerian Flour Mills, Nigerian Bottling
Company Nigerian Breweries Limited, 7-UP Bottling Company, among others, have
written to Labour to discuss on retrenchment of workers.

At a briefing in Lagos, leaders of Food, Berage
and Tobacco (FOBTOB) Senior Staff Association have called on government to
intervene, to save more than three million jobs.
