The
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong has constituted a six-man State
Laboratory Quality Assurance Committee, to monitor the sensitivity and specification of the Rapid Diagnostic HIV
Test Kits to ensure accurate and precise results.

The
team is headed by a medical laboratory scientist in the Ministry, Mr. Stephen
Udofia.

Inaugurating
the Committee, Dr. Ukpong explained that the team’s key duty is to provide
Quality Assurance of health kits, including post-market validation for all HIV
kits provided for use by the state govt.

He
revealed that 35m people world-wide are currently living with HIV/AIDS, with
24.7m from sub-Sahara Africa and Nigeria accounting for nearly half of all new
infections in sub-Sahara Africa.
