1.6BN PEOPLE GLOBALLY DEPEND ON FOREST RESOURCES FOR LIVELIHOOD



-          The Minister of Environment, Mrs. Amina Mohammed says that not less than 1.6billion people across the world depend mainly on forest resources for livelihood.

-          Mohammed, who spoke at the International Forest Day in Abuja, with the theme "Forest and Water”, enjoined Nigerians to join hands with government at all levels in its efforts to preserve Nigeria’s forest resources.
-          Mohammed said the UN General Assembly on November 28, 2012 had adopted a resolution, declaring every March 21 as International Day of the Forest.
-          According to her, the significance of the day is to create awareness among people, on why the nation’s forest should be protected for the survival of humanity and other living organisms.
