The New
Initiative for Credible Leadership (NICL) has demanded the outright
cancellation of the re-run elections, held on Saturday in Rivers State.

NICL stated that the election falls short of all
known local and international standards of accepting elections, adding that
elections should have been called off when violence sparked off before the
elections.

In a letter to the Rivers State Resident
Electoral Commissioner (REC) Mr. Aniedi Ikoiwak, the group said it will work
with the Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET)
and other bodies to occupy the Abuja headquarters of INEC, should it decide to
validate controversial polls.

The letter signed by Rev. Stephen Onwu, asked President
Buhari to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State, if the actors further
disrespect the sanctity of human lives and not ready to give democracy a chance
to thrive.
