NIGERIA EYEING 1,000 MW OF ELECTRICITY FROM COAL BY 2020- FAYEMI



-           Nigeria is expected to generate 1,000 mega watts of electricity from coal by year 2020 to supplement other sources of energy currently used in the country.

-          Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi made the disclosure at an Economic Summit organized by the New Telegraph newspaper, with the theme, “Nigeria Beyond the Oil Economy”, in Lagos last week.
-          The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) disclosed that diversification of the nation’s economy is yielding positive results, with the country earning about N400 billion solid minerals in 2015.
-          Fayemi said a significant opportunity exists for power generation from coal exploration in the country, adding that the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development is collaborating with the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to ensure that huge coal deposit in Nigeria is explored to meet Nigeria’s energy needs.
