Senate
has revealed its plans to unmask those behind the payment of N50billion by Mobile
Telecommunications Network (MTN) to the Federal Government.
-
The Red Chamber also wants to know why MTN was
directed to pay the money into a recovery account, rather than pay through Nigerian
Communication Commission (NCC).
-
Senate Committee on Communications Chairman,
Senator Gilbert Nnaji said the assurance was necessary following reports that
the matter was abandoned due to the absence of the Attorney General and
Minister of Justice, Justice Abubakar Malami at the investigative hearing.
-
In October 2015, NCC imposed a fine of N1.04
trillion on MTN for contravening the directive to deactivate 5.2 million
unregistered subscribers on its network.
