The
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has stated that the family of the Corps
member, Okonta Dumebi Samuel, killed by unknown gunmen in Rivers state, would
not be abandoned.

NYSC Director-General, Brig. General Johnson
Olawumi gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the family and the
palace of the paramount ruler of Illah Town, Oshimili North LGA, Delta state,
the Ogbelani of Illah. Obi Akazue Gbemudu 11.

Olawumi revealed that NYSC was already
collaborating with INEC and the Rivers State Government to ensure Dumebi’s befitting
burial and support for the bereaved family.

According to the DG, NYSC has always made the
protection of corps members a priority, throughout the service year, disclosing
that Dumebi’s death came as a rude shock.
