FORMER NNDC BOSS NOMINATED FOR OPEC SECRETARY GENERAL



-          The Federal Government has nominated a former Group Managing Director (GMD) of THE Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mohammed Barkindo for the position of the Secretary- General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countrues (OPEC) in July 2016.

-          Barkindo served as the Acting Secretary-General of OPEC in 2006 and was NNPC GMD between 2009 and 2010. 
-          A Federal Government official and some representatives of OPEC confirmed the development, adding that Barkindo has the potential to end OPEC leadership deadlock.

-          Barkindo’s nomination was forwarded was forwarded recently to replace Abdalla Salem el-Badri, who is the current OPEC Secretary General.
